About TestTheMic.app
A small, focused tool for checking that your microphone works before a call or recording.
TestTheMic.app is a free online microphone test. You press Start, allow the microphone and see a live level meter, a verdict in plain words, and you can record about 10 seconds to hear yourself. It also has a background noise test and an echo test.
Not the same as similar names: this site is TestTheMic.app, an independent site published by Takreparation Skåne AB. It is not connected to other microphone test sites with similar names.
How it works
Everything runs in your browser with standard web technology: the browser’s microphone access (getUserMedia) and the Web Audio API. The page measures the level on your device. There is no audio upload and no server that receives sound.
How we check the facts
Steps for browsers and operating systems come from the vendors’ own help pages (Google, Microsoft, Apple, Mozilla). Each guide lists its sources with the date we read them. Where we could not verify a step, we left it out. The level limits behind the verdict are our own rule of thumb and are labelled that way. The calculations are covered by tests with hand-computed cases.
